Kellen Powell is a visual artist originally from Western Canada, now living with his wife, two sons, and dog in Austin, Texas.

His work explores the gaze of popular iconography and interrogates the space where shared meaning begins to fracture—where ways of seeing split into the known and the unknown.

With his first major body of work, Revisionist Westerns, Kellen challenges viewers by juxtaposing the familiar imagery of Hollywood westerns with a vulgar, expressive style of painting, destabilizing both nostalgia and narrative expectation.

Kellen holds a B.F.A. from The School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.
